Denmark
Copenhagen - 4 nights
Aarhus - 3 nights
We flew with Easyjet from Manchester to Copenhagen. https://www.easyjet.com/en/
In Copenhagen we stayed in the Absalon Hotel, lovely rooms, excellent location near the main train station. https://absalon-hotel.dk/en/
We were in Copenhagen for Halloween, so the Tivoli Gardens https://www.tivoli.dk/ were particularly spectacular with the lights, shops, cafes, rides. We visited the National Museum https://natmus.dk/ which had a wide range of very interesting artefacts from pre-history to 2000, along with a very pleasant cafe. Then a ride on the Canal Cruise from Nyhavn which also gave us the opportunity to walk round the area. We visited the Museum of Copenhagen https://cphmuseum.kk.dk/en offered its own unique insight into the city. The Design Museum https://designmuseum.dk/ was recommended by a friend, the displays and design pieces here were colourful, unique and informative. We used the bus service in Copenhagen as it is too big to walk around.
Then we caught a very comfortable, reasonably priced train to Aarhus, the journey took around 2 hours 45 minutes. Here we stayed at the Oasis Hotel https://www.hoteloasia.com , this was a comfortable hotel, close to the train station and the city centre. The shopping in Aarhus was excellent and all within a convenient walk, we also ate at the street food market. The Salling Department store, (we love a department store), had its light switching on for Christmas, this was fun to see. We returned to the Salling Department store to visit the roof terrace, with a bar and amazing views across the city. The Art Museum in Aarhus https://www.aros.dk/en was spectacular, designed with a unique multi-coloured roof walk, and a fabulous range of art, plus a lovely cafe and shop with lots of cute things.
My favourite place to visit, which had inspired our visit to Denmark was the close by Moesgaard Museum https://www.moesgaardmuseum.dk/en. We caught a short bus ride to the museum which sits south of Aarhus, and in summer would offer a lovely walk to the beach, in winter there is skiing and sledging near the museum. The presentation within the museum starts with pre-history right up until medieval times. On the way to the prehistory exhibitions, you descend the stairway of evolution. Here you meet your prehistoric family: Seven reconstructed human species will look on as you walk down the stairs. Finally, they have the Grauballe Man, the world's best-preserved bog man from the Iron Age. Everything in the Moesgaard Museum is presented exceptionally well, with lots of interactive activities, dioramas and unique ways that bring history alive. There was also a colourful, informative exhibition about the Egyptians. Of course, they have an excellent cafe as well.
