Boston Freedom Trail, Tea Party and Cheers

Boston Tea Party Museum - https://www.bostonteapartyship.com/

The Boston Tea Party Museum was an impressive affair, the history is delivered by actors as you are guided round the old ship and you have the chance to throw a box of tea overboard. We both felt that it covered the history clearly, and in an imaginative way. It is also in a fabulous setting in the middle of Congress Street bridge, with its two replica ships.

We chose the official Freedom Trail Foundation's ‘Walk into History’ tour; we had not booked it, but arrived at the time specified at the Visitor Centre on Boston Common, very close to Park Street Station. From there a young lady, dressed in traditional clothing of the era, took us around the historic sites. She was very informative and we visited the following locations: Boston Common, Massachusetts State House, Park Street Church, Granary Burying Ground, King's Chapel & King's Chapel Burying Ground, Boston Latin School site/Benjamin Franklin statue, Old Corner Bookstore, Old South Meeting House, Old State House, Boston Massacre site, and Faneuil Hall.

At regular intervals, our guide stopped in a shaded area, and regaled us with a range of fascinating stories about the American Revolution.

The tour was no longer than 90 minutes, and gave us an excellent insight into the history, we both really enjoyed it, it gave us a great introduction to the city. She left us near Faneuil Hall and we were able to grab a great lunch at the Quincy Market behind Faneuil Hall. We then wandered to the close by Harbour, and had a wander around looking at the boats.

Cheers Bar - https://www.cheersboston.com/

We really enjoyed our visit to Cheers, it is on the North West Side of Boston Common on Beacon Street, we walked there from the Harbour, and although a good walk, easily done, and meant we walked past the front of the stately Massachusetts State House on Beacon Street. Beacon Street has some fabulous, traditional, upmarket, properties to admire as you wander along.

The Cheers Bar offers some great photo opportunities outside, and from inside, the stairs down, and the front door, are familiar from the television programme. On the wall, there were photos of Ted Danson and other actors from the show (Cliff and Norm). Upstairs was a replica of the Cheers Bar, and a gift shop.

We had a refreshing beer and lunch, which were both good quality, and the service was excellent. Cheers had a really fun feel and we both really enjoyed it. We left there to go to a concert at Fenway Park, with Def Leppard, Journey and the Steve Miller Band.
What an amazing day!
